| Marconi
is an international telecommunications company that
manufactures and installs telecommunication equipment.
Marconi has many manufacturing locations worldwide.
All of their locations use different applications
including Oracle, BAAN, SAP-R3 and MFG PRO. All
systems have their individual customer data bases.
Marconi's challenge was to create a global customer
database that would allow the company to develop
real-time CRM (Customer Relationship Management
system). This consolidation of customers gave
management the ability to have a centralized reporting
system that allowed them to see, at an enterprise
level, worldwide sales and other related information
for each customer. Also, marketing and pricing
policies could be formulated at the enterprise
level.
The process allowed the local systems to run as is but all customers would have a global ID. To achieve this a compete ETL(Extract Transform and Load) system was designed. The data was extracted from various systems and cleaned. The process created new hierarchies for existing customers and also created new customers if so required. Any new global ID's were communicated to all systems worldwide.
Datalink Systems Inc was involved in designing the ETL process and writing algorithms to cleanse the data. |
